Swami Vivekanand Chair, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University(SVSU), Meerut in association with Maharishi Aurobindo Subharti College & Hospital of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti College of Journalism & Mass Communication, NSS Unit & Sanskriti Vibhag, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University celebrated 154th Birth Anniversary of Bhagini Nivedita (Margaret Elizabeth Noble, born on 28th October 1867), an Irish teacher, author, social activist, school founder and disciple of Swami Vivekanand, in Sanskriti Vibhag, SVSU at 12:00 noon on the 28th of October 2021.
The program started with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) V.P. Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Swami Vivekanand Subharti University lighted the lamp and blessed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) Simmi Gurwara, Convener, Swami Vivekanand Chair and Additional Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, delivered the Welcome Address. Prof. Gurwara extended a warm welcome to Prof. (Dr.) V.P. Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Neeraj Karan Singh, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, SVSU, Prof. (Dr.) Abhay, Shankaregowda, Dean, Maharishi Aurobindo Subharti College & Hospital of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, Prof. Ashok Tyagi, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mr. Kuldeep Narayan of Sanskriti Vibhag, SVSU and the students from different Colleges of SVSU.
Prof. (Dr.) Neeraj Karan Singh spoke about the role played by Sister Nivedita towards women empowerment and education. Prof. Neeraj vociferously spoke about the commitment and dedication of Swami Vivekanand’s disciple Sister Nivedita who sacrificed her life to the service of people in India in spite of being a foreign national. She took the command of enlightening women folks in India and went ahead with a missionary zeal.
Prof. Ashok Tyagi shared some anecdotes to explain the importance of self-awareness and self-growth which Swami Vivekanand advocated throughout. Mr. Kuldeep Narayan explained the life journey of Sister Nivedita who died at the age of 44, after committing herself to the service of her fellow Indians.
The Chief Guest of the event, Prof. (Dr.) V.P. Singh spoke at length about the meaning of the clarion call given by Swami Vivekanand-Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached. Prof. Singh exhorted the students to follow in the path shown by Swami Vivekanand as his teachings are as relevant today. The timelessness of his ideologies makes them so significant that they will never lose their shine.
Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Shankaregowda extended his vote of thanks to all present in the event and called it a day.
