Understanding of Textiles: Creativity and Designs

A guest lecture and workshop onUnderstanding of Textiles: Creativity and Designs was organized by Department of Fashion and Textile Design and Entrepreneurship Development Cell on 1stDecember 2025 at Satyajit Ray auditorium, NBSCFF, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. The program aimed to motivate, guide emerging designers to enlighten the dynamic relationship between textile knowledge and creative innovation in the fashion and design industry. The event aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of textile structures, fiber behavior, and design applications while encouraging them to experiment with new ideas and creative approaches.The session emphasized that a strong foundation in textiles is essential for any designer, as fabric selection directly influences the function, aesthetics, and sustainability of a final product. Experts explained how fiber properties, yarn structure, weave and knit types, and surface ornamentation techniques shape the look, feel, durability, and drape of textiles; moreover students were explained that every fabric carries a unique tactile signature.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma and Hon’ble CEO Madam Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj lauded the speaker for his innovations and contribution in the field of textile sector.

The program, led by Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra (Dean & Principal, Nandlal Bose Subharti College of Fine Arts and Fashion Design) Dr. Neha Singh (HOD, Fashion & Textile Design),  Ms. Shradha Yadav (host of the event) and Dr. Surabhi Das (EDC Coordinator)

The program began with the welcoming of keynote speaker Mr. Akshay Tholia, Director at SARV International highlighted creativity in textile design, where the speaker encouraged students to think beyond conventional methods. Demonstrations were held on blending traditional and modern design elements, eco-friendly dyeing methods, and experimenting with unconventional fibers. Students were provided knowledge about innovative materials such as agro-based fibers, recycled textiles, and smart fabrics, aligning creativity with sustainability.

The lecture concluded with an engaging question and answer session, as participants discovered how texture can reveal not only fabric names but also fiber content as well.

Overall, the guest lecture proved to be a valuable platform for fostering innovation and nurturing entrepreneurial aspirations among fashion and textile design students, further strengthening the university’s commitment to skill development and startup culture.

This event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Arpana Kamboj, Ms. Anisha Anand, Ms. Devsuni and Ms. Abhilasha. The program successfully reinforced the vision of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University to nurture talent, promote gender equality, and create future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the nation’s socio-economic development.
