Mindfulness Meditation: A Step Towards Mental Well-being in Modern Life

In an effort to promote mental health and holistic development among students, the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (GSVSDJMC), Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized a guest lecture on “Mindfulness Meditation and Its Role in Modern Life” on April 16, 2026. The session focused on the growing importance of mindfulness practices in managing stress and enhancing overall well-being in today’s fast-paced world.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Pallabi Mukherjee, Assistant Professor at the Subharti School of Buddhist Studies. She provided a comprehensive understanding of mindfulness meditation, describing it as a practice of being fully aware and present in the moment without judgment. Highlighting its roots in Buddhist philosophy, she explained how mindfulness has evolved into a widely accepted technique for improving mental clarity and emotional stability. Dr. Mukherjee also conducted brief practical exercises, guiding students through breathing techniques and awareness practices that can be easily incorporated into daily routines.

The programme was organized under the direction of Prof. Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department, who emphasized the importance of mental well-being alongside academic excellence. He noted that such sessions are essential in helping students cope with academic pressure and personal challenges, ultimately contributing to their overall development.

The event was effectively anchored by Ms. Tarun Jain, who served as the Master of Ceremony, ensuring the smooth progression of the programme. Coordination was managed by Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, whose efforts ensured the successful organization of the lecture. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Preeti Singh, who expressed appreciation to the guest speaker and all participants.

Faculty members, including Dr. Ashutosh Verma and Mr. Ram Prakash Tiwari, actively participated in the session along with students, making it interactive and engaging.

The lecture highlighted the relevance of mindfulness meditation in improving focus, reducing anxiety, and fostering emotional resilience. It encouraged students to adopt simple yet effective techniques to maintain balance in their personal and professional lives. Such initiatives reflect the institution’s commitment to nurturing not only academic growth but also the mental and emotional well-being of its students, making the programme both meaningful and impactful.
