Report on Children’s Day Celebration at Department of Library and Information Science

Raja Kunwar Singh Subharti Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized a Children’s Day celebration on 14th November, 2025 with the objective of raising awareness about education as a fundamental right, children’s basic rights, and the importance of equal opportunities for all.

The program began with a ceremonial inauguration by Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, and faculty, staff and students, who paid floral tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s portrait. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi emphasized that Children’s Day honors Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s affection for children and highlighted education as every child’s fundamental right. He discussed the Right to Education Act (RTE Act, 2009), which provides legal entitlement to free and compulsory education, and stressed that education encompasses personality development, creativity, self-confidence, and moral values beyond textbooks. He urged collective responsibility to ensure no child is deprived of educational opportunities.

Dr. Sapna Sharma delivered a lecture on “Children’s Rights to Education,” which received enthusiastic response from students. The program featured cultural performances including poetry recitations, songs, and various presentations by students. On this occasion all faculty and staff  members of the department Dr. Javed Khan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Alpana, Mrs. Bhavna Joshi, Mr. Subhash, Ms.Swati, and Shri Rajendra were present.

The celebration successfully enhanced students understanding of children’s educational rights and the legal framework supporting them, particularly the Right to Education Act. Students gained comprehensive knowledge about the multidimensional nature of education, recognizing its role in holistic personality development beyond conventional academic learning. The cultural performances provided practical engagement opportunities, reinforcing theoretical knowledge through creative expression.

The program strengthened social responsibility among future library and information science professionals, emphasizing their role in facilitating educational access and promoting literacy. The collaborative event created an inclusive academic environment that promoted interdisciplinary learning and community building within the department. The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from students and faculty demonstrated the program’s success in achieving its objectives of raising awareness about educational rights while enhancing students’ knowledge and competencies.
