Hindi Divas 14 September 2024
Hindi Divas was organized on 14 September 2024 under the joint aegis of Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages and Samrat Ashok Subharti School of Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, Meerut and Indo Korea Business Culture Center.
The main objective of this program is to promote the attachment towards Hindi language among the students and to make the youth aware of the Hindi language.
National Hindi Divas is celebrated on 14 September because on this day in 1949 the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India. Hindi Divas, which was first celebrated in 1953, proved to be an important milestone in promoting the Hindi language.
The program was inaugurated at 10:00 am at Dhyan Kendra, Samrat Ashok Subharti School of Buddhist Studies, 2nd Floor. A large number of students participated in the program. The entire Hindi language program was conducted by Shruti Sharma, a student of Masters Hindi first year. The program started with the formal lighting of the lamp and garlanding and welcome speech. In the same series, Dr. Champalal Mandrele, Head of Department of Samrat Ashok Subharti School of Buddhist Studies, and Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of Language Department, honoured the guests by presenting them with a plant and a sash. The beginning of the programme was remarkable. In this function, two friendly competitions were organised under the theme of ‘Hindi Samvad’. The first was on the topic ‘Hindi self-composed poem recitation’ and the second on the topic ‘Possibilities of Hindi language in employment’ (pros/cons). Students displayed their creativity and knowledge skills in reciting their self-composed poems, while in the speech competition, they aroused their interest in Hindi by expressing their views on the pros and cons. The main feature of this event included the active participation of students from various colleges, which promoted enthusiasm and a sense of unity among the students towards the language. Notably, new and creative approaches were welcomed in the competition. Students expressed their love for Hindi by presenting ‘self-composed poem recitation’ and ‘debate’.
On this occasion, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Language Department, said that our mother tongue should be visible in every particle. We should understand the importance of Hindi language everywhere, in the university, at home and at the workplace. This will increase the love and respect of the students for their language. We have to move our language forward unitedly, so that it can be established at the first place.
Dr. Champalal Mandrele, Head of Samrat Ashok School of Buddhist Studies, said that various experiments have made the Hindi language stronger. He said that the aim of literature is not just to communicate the mother tongue thoughts, now it has to reach sensitivity, understanding, culture and civilization, for which Hindi is a powerful medium.
The chief guest of the program, Dr. Neeraj Kumar. Joint Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India, said that the existence of our nation is incomplete without the Hindi language. If we want to keep the nation alive, then we have to keep our Hindi language and culture alive. While talking about Gandhiji, he said that Gandhiji felt proud of the Hindi language. He was also effective in communicating his thoughts in Hindi. Gandhiji’s contribution to the upliftment of Hindi is incomparable. We all should take inspiration from this and it is necessary to make more efforts to promote the Hindi language. Our language will improve only when teachers, writers and profession take forward the purity of Hindi. He said that we should not limit ourselves to the celebration of Hindi language but also take a pledge that we feel proud to speak our language so that our Hindi language gets respect and prestige.
Dr. Anand Vardhan, Associate Professor, Ambedkar University, New Delhi, gave a pithy speech on the importance of Hindi. He emphasized the role of Hindi as an integrating language connecting diverse cultures and regions in India. Dr. Vardhan spoke about how Hindi not only serves as a medium of communication but also as a carrier of rich literary and cultural heritage. He encouraged the promotion of Hindi in education and technology, highlighting its relevance in the global world while preserving India’s identity. His speech was well received by the audience and he highlighted the need to adopt and promote Hindi in various fields.
Assistant Professor of Language Department Dr. Ashish Kumar ‘Deepankar’, Dr. Anuj Bawra and Assistant Professor of Samrat Ashok School of Buddhist Studies Dr. Shrida Jha played the role of judges in both the sessions of self-composed poem recitation competition and debate competition impartially. Adopting the right method of judgment, the successful students were declared in the competition. In which, in the ‘Hindi self-composed poem recitation’ competition, Mandeep Yadav, a student of Physiotherapy, got the first place, Srishti Sirohi, a student of Law College, got the second place and Poonam Singh, a student of Library Department, got the third place. In the ‘Possibilities of Hindi language in employment’ (pro/opposition) debate competition, Piyush Agarwal, a student of Physiotherapy, got the first place, Samia Siddiqui, a student of Language Department, got the second place and Varsha Raj, a student of Journalism Department, got the third place.
Dr. Hero Hito, Advisor, School of Buddhist Studies played an important role in the concept formation and implementation of the program. In the end, the Head of Language Department Dr. Seema Sharma gave the vote of thanks. Dr. Zena Chung, Mr. A.K. Sinha from IKBCI along with Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Ms. Swati Sharma, Dr. Ranveer Singh, Dr. Ashish Kumar ‘Dipankar’, Dr. Anju Bawra, Dr. Rafat Khanam and Dr. Farah Hashmi and faculty members from Samrat Ashok School of Buddhist Studies Dr. Praveen, Dr. Vivek, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Shrida Jha, Dr. Sharanpal Singh made valuable contributions in making this program a grand success.
