Maharishi Aurobindo Subharti College and Hospital of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized an event on the occasion of International Day of Forests to raise awareness about the importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance, conserving biodiversity, and promoting a healthy environment. The program was conducted for all undergraduate students with the aim of encouraging environmental responsibility among the youth.
The program was held on 20th March 2026 (Friday) at 2:30 PM at LT-2, Naturopathy & Yoga College, MASCHNYS.
The resource person for the session was Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, Chairman of the University Environmental Committee, SVSU, Meerut. He delivered an informative and thought-provoking lecture highlighting the global significance of forests and their indispensable role in sustaining life on Earth.
During the session, he explained that World Forest Day is an important occasion to understand the value of forests and to take collective responsibility for their conservation and sustainable use. He emphasized that forests are not merely a collection of trees but are vital ecosystems that support life in multiple ways.
He elaborated that forests act as:
- The lungs of our planet by producing oxygen
- Natural regulators of climate and weather patterns
- Habitats supporting rich biodiversity
- Essential resources supporting millions of livelihoods
He also highlighted the major threats faced by forests today, including deforestation, rapid urbanization, and climate change, stressing the urgent need for conservation efforts and sustainable practices.
The session was interactive and encouraged students to reflect on their role in protecting the environment. It created awareness about the importance of adopting eco-friendly habits and participating in conservation activities.
