International Mother Language Day 2024 Celebration
Special lecture on the occasion of International Mother Language Day-2024 on the topic Multilingual Education: Mother Tongue and Linguistic Harmony on 21st February 2024
A special lecture on the topic “Multilingual Education: Mother Tongue and Linguistic Harmony” was organized on the occasion of International Mother Language Day in Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. In this program students of the department expressed their views on International Mother Language Day and highlighted the importance of Indian languages. The students also took a pledge to preserve their mother tongue safely.
The keynote speaker of this lecture, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of Department of Languages, said in her address that the objective of the New Education Policy 2020 in multilingual education is to provide primary education to children in their mother tongue, but this is a big challenge. Also, language is a flowing river; if the need of language is not kept in mind then we will be left behind. She said that in a huge country like India, we have to understand the importance of all Indian languages and respect them; only then linguistic harmony will be created. She added that it is good to learn languages other than the mother tongue, but when these languages become a burden then it becomes a challenge. That is why learning the mother tongue is encouraged. It is also said that if you know languages other than your mother tongue, your brain remains healthy and you become prosperous. In the end she said that many problems of communication can be solved.
On this occasion Prof. Ashok Tyagi pointed out the importance of mother tongue, he said that knowing the power of language, it was made an important day. There is an opportunity to preserve and spread culture through mother tongue.
Prof. (Dr.) S. C. Thaledi, Head of the Department, said that today more than 600 dialects are spoken in India and each dialect has its own literature and tradition. Language is a great power, people are determined to master it. Expressing concern, he said that today many dialects are on the verge of extinction. Today, we all should take a pledge to preserve our languages and dialects. One should respect all the languages present around us.
The program was coordinated by BJMC 3rd year student Ramakant Yadav and welcomed by Chhaina Tyagi. During the session Ms Preeti Singh, and Madhur Sharma, Asstt. Professor and research scholar Shikeb Majeed were present. Among the students Suman Kumar, Varsha Raj, Monu Kumar, Mohit Prajapati, Vansh Chaudhary, Garima Pandey, Anushka Solanki, Tina Som, Bhumi Kumari, Aastha, Bharti, Poonam, Anjali, Palak Tandon, Harshul Sharma, Simran Srivastava, Harshit, Nitesh. Kumar, Chena Tyagi, Prajjwal, Apoorva, Manisha Kumari, Ramakant, Mohit also expressed their views.
