Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Holds High-Level Meeting to Further Strengthen Anti-Ragging Mechanism

With the commencement of the new academic session, a high-level meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad was held today at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, with the objective of ensuring a ragging-free, safe, and disciplined campus. The meeting was conducted under the directions of Prof. (Dr.) Munish Reddy, during which several important decisions were taken to further strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the University’s anti-ragging mechanism.

The meeting was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Secretary, Anti-Ragging Committee; Mr. Shashi Raj Tevatia, Chief Proctor; Dr. Nisha Singh, Senior Proctor and Member Secretary, Anti-Ragging Squad; all members of the Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad; representatives from various colleges; Chief Wardens and Wardens of all hostels; and other concerned university officials.

During the meeting, anti-ragging awareness videos issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) were screened for all attendees and shared with them. These videos provided comprehensive information on the prevention of ragging, relevant legal provisions, institutional responsibilities, students’ rights, and effective preventive measures.

The provisions of the UGC’s “Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions” were reviewed in detail, and all officials were instructed to ensure strict implementation of the University’s Zero Tolerance Policy against ragging.

It was resolved that a special vigilance drive would be conducted throughout the academic session. Under this initiative, regular and surprise inspections will be carried out at the following locations:

  • All boys’ and girls’ hostels;
  • All colleges and departments of the University;
  • The entire University campus;
  • Entry and exit gates;
  • Cafeterias, common areas, and recreational spaces;
  • Transportation hubs; and
  • All identified hotspots and other sensitive areas across the University.

The Anti-Ragging Squad was directed to conduct regular patrols during both daytime and nighttime, maintain continuous interaction with newly admitted students, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the University administration. All Chief Wardens and Wardens were instructed to maintain heightened vigilance in hostels, colleges, departments, and other sensitive areas across the campus.

It was also decided that orientation programmes, awareness campaigns, counselling sessions, and interactive meetings would be organized periodically in every college and hostel to educate students about the adverse consequences of ragging, UGC regulations, and the applicable disciplinary and legal provisions.

Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya briefed all members on the University’s anti-ragging mechanism, grievance redressal system, prompt response procedures, and the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline. He stated that continuous monitoring would be maintained across the University campus, all colleges, hostels, and identified hotspot areas, and that any incident of ragging would invite immediate and stringent action.

He further emphasized that Swami Vivekanand Subharti University follows a strict Zero Tolerance Policy towards ragging. Any student found directly or indirectly involved in ragging will face stringent disciplinary action in accordance with UGC regulations, including suspension, expulsion, cancellation of admission, withdrawal of scholarship, and, wherever necessary, the initiation of criminal proceedings.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University administration appealed to all students, parents, faculty members, and staff to actively contribute towards maintaining a ragging-free, safe, respectful, and positive academic environment so that every student can pursue quality education in a secure and fear-free atmosphere.
