The Women Empowerment Committee, Subharti University organised a special talk on the “Importance of Menstrual Hygiene”. The talk was organised and attended by the female members of the non-teaching staff.
Dr. Smriti Gupta, Professor, OBG Department, Faculty of Medicine presented the topic to over 50 staff members. Dr. Smriti started the awareness talk with an eye-opening result of a survey conducted by NDTV in 2014 which states that 79% of girls remain unaware of the importance of menstrual hygiene in our country.
During the session, Dr. Smriti spoke on the topics such as What is the monthly menstrual cycle?
Why is there pain and bleeding during periods? How to be clean during the periods and the importance of an iron-rich diet for females during the monthly cycle.
She shared 3 simple yoga steps for pain relief during the periods as well.
The members attending the talk took the opportunity to ask a few questions such as “what is a better alternative than a simple piece of cloth to be used as a sanitary pad?” and “Is it true that the Tulsi plant getts affected by a girl during her periods?”.
