Road Safety Awareness Workshop by Subharti NSS Cell

NSS Cell Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut and Traffic Police, Meerut organized a “Road Safety Awareness Workshop”. The workshop was organized in Makhanlal Auditorium of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the University and was attended by Shri Raghavendra Kumar Mishra, Superintendent of Traffic Police Meerut as the chief guest. Other police officers including traffic police were also present.

On this occasion, the Superintendent of Police Traffic while addressing the NSS volunteers said that road accidents are the result of negligence of drivers. If everyone follows traffic rules, then these accidents can be reduced to a great extent. He said that most of the deaths in road accidents are of those two-wheeler drivers who do not use helmets. He said that most of the deaths in road accidents are due to head injuries. He also asked the youth to take a pledge that they should not drive two-wheelers without helmets and if any family member drives after drinking alcohol, then they should not travel with him. Raghavendra Kumar Mishra said that challan is issued for violating traffic rules and fine is also collected. He said that the youth should come forward for road safety awareness because today’s youth is the creator of tomorrow’s future.

Speaking further, Mishra said that the youth should never drive without a license. He also stressed on the mandatory use of seat belts in four-wheelers so that accidents can be avoided during high speed. He said that the youth are the power of the country, if they follow the rules, then it will send a wide message of road safety in the society. He asked the NSS volunteers to design some good slogans during the road safety workshop, so that the message can be given to the society.

During this, Sub-Inspector Khanchand of Traffic Police Meerut gave detailed information about traffic rules to the volunteers present. On this occasion, NSS volunteer and BNYS student Kritika Ahuja said that she is taking five days training on road safety awareness and during this time she has gained a lot of new information. She said that she will also spread this important information among other students.

NSS Subharti’s program coordinator Prof. Subhash Chandra Thaledi told on this occasion that NSS volunteers are regularly trained for road safety awareness, and they spread this message at the rural level. Prof. Thaledi told that under the Student-Police Experiential Learning (SPEL) program, about four dozen NSS volunteers of the university are getting 120 hours of training in various police stations in which the road safety program is the main one. He thanked the Meerut Police and said that they are contributing in training the university students thoroughly.

Earlier, Traffic Superintendent of Police Raghavendra Kumar Mishra also reviewed the “Student-Police Experiential Learning” (SPEL) program, under which 47 students of the university are registered in Kankarkheda, Jani, TP Nagar and Partapur police stations. He instructed the officers and police trainers of all these police stations to give complete information to the training volunteers of NSS and tell them about policing. He also took feedback from the NSS volunteers. All the volunteers agreed that they are given good information and knowledge in the police stations. Traffic Superintendent of Police and SPEL scheme nodal officer Mishra said that on February 7, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (Rules and Manual) Ashish Gupta is visiting Meerut and during this time he will also review the Student-Police Experiential Learning Scheme. He also warned all the police stations about this.

The program was conducted by Ramprakash Tiwari, Program Officer, NSS Unit-1. On this occasion, Dr. Vishal Kumar, Program Officer Unit-4 of NSS and in-charge of SPEL, Shikeb Majeed, Shri Akhilesh Kumar Gaur, Assistant Nodal Officer and Head of Police Station AHT Meerut, Sub Inspector Khushal Kumar of Jani Police Station, Sub Inspector Vipin Kumar from TP Nagar Police Station, Lady Sub Inspector Mansi from Kankarkheda Police Station and Lady Sub Inspector Premlata from Partapur Police Station along with other police personnel were also present. Head Constable of Traffic Police Namit Malik also administered the oath related to road safety to all the students.
