Language Promotion Workshops Illuminate New Horizons at SVSU, Meerut

Meerut, August 27, 2024 A Three days dynamic series of French and Korean Language promotional workshops was organized by the Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, on August 27, 2024. The workshop was meticulously designed to introduce and promote the newly launched French Certificate Course and Korean Language Certificate Course, under the MoU signed by LeFrehindi and IKBCC foundation respectively, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering global communication skills among its students.

The workshop was divided into two sessions, catering to diverse audiences across the campus. The first session, commencing at 11:00 AM, was held at the MMM Auditorium in SITE College, in conjunction with Subharti Institute of Technology and Engineering  and Nandlal Bose Subharti College of Fine Arts & Fashion Design. The venue was a hub of intellectual activity, as students and faculty members gathered to engage in an immersive linguistic experience.

Dr. Rafat Khanam, the in-charge of English and Foreign languages, offered the welcome address and Dean FASS, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi , HOD of Languages department Dr. Seema Sharma,  and HOD of CS Department, SITE College, Dr. Shravan Garg Facilitated the guest speakers with Plant and Patka as a token of respect.

The first session of the day was a remarkable start, featuring two highly esteemed language experts whose extensive knowledge and dynamic teaching approaches left a profound and lasting impression on all participants. Miss Shilpa Jain, a seasoned authority in the French Language, conducted French Language sessions. Her deep understanding of the intricacies and nuances of French grammar, pronunciation, and cultural context was evident throughout her lectures. Her unique ability to make complex topics approachable and her knack for engaging learners in meaningful dialogue transformed the sessions into a vibrant, interactive learning experience. Participants found her guidance to be not only deeply informative but also truly inspiring, sparking their enthusiasm for mastering the French language.

Simultaneously, the Korean language session was led by Mr. Krishan Kant Jha, a renowned expert in Korean linguistic and cultural studies. His in-depth knowledge of the Korean language, combined with his rich insights into the cultural heritage of Korea, captivated the attendees. Mr. Jha’s teaching went beyond mere language instruction; he interwove linguistic concepts with cultural anecdotes, historical context, and contemporary relevance, which altogether ignited a keen interest in this increasingly significant global language. His interactive teaching style, filled with passion and dedication, encouraged participants to immerse themselves fully in the learning process, fostering a genuine appreciation for Korean culture and its linguistic richness.

This engaging blend of French and Korean language sessions offered a diverse learning experience, leaving participants eager for more as they delved into the world of multilingualism and cultural exchange.

The first session was further enriched by the presence of several esteemed dignitaries who addressed the gathering and shared their insights on the significance of the newly introduced courses.

Prof. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, emphasized the broader cultural and intellectual benefits of learning foreign languages. He stated, “The study of languages like French and Korean opens doors to understanding diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and building bridges between nations. These courses are not merely academic offerings; they are tools for nurturing global citizens who can navigate the complexities of the modern world with ease and sensitivity.”

Dr. Seema Sharma, head, Department of Languages also noted that “French, being one of the most widely spoken languages in international diplomacy and business, offers our students a distinct advantage in global markets. Similarly, Korean, with the rise of South Korea as a major economic and cultural powerhouse, provides invaluable skills for those looking to engage with East Asia.”

Dr. Rafat Khanam introduced the student about the procedure of the enrollment and the relevance of the newly launched French and Korean Language Certificate courses. She emphasized that the role of French and Korean languages has been fostering cross-cultural communication, enhancing global understanding, and equipping participants with essential language skills that are increasingly important in today’s interconnected world. Her remarks underscored the transformative potential of these courses in both professional and personal contexts.

Professor Manoj Kapil, Principal of SITE College, spoke passionately about the growing importance of multilingualism in today’s interconnected world.

Additional insights were provided by the Head, Computer Science Department, SITE College, Professor Shravan Kumar who highlighted the relevance of these languages in various professional domains.

Dr. Pintu Mishra, Dean, Fine Arts College also contributed their perspectives, underscoring the academic rigor and practical applications of the courses.

The second session, beginning at 2:00 PM, was conducted at LT-1 on the 6th floor of the Department of Paramedical Sciences, providing an equally vibrant platform for paramedical students to explore new linguistic avenues. It was also enhanced by the presence of several esteemed dignitaries who graced the gathering with their insightful addresses, shedding light on the importance and potential impact of the newly introduced courses. Their valuable perspectives added depth to the discussions, highlighting the transformative role these courses could play in broadening linguistic and cultural understanding.

Dr. Pankaj Kishore Mishra, Head, Paramedical Sciences  remarked, “The structured approach of these certificate courses ensures that students gain a solid foundation in the language, along with practical communication skills that are essential in today’s diverse work environments.”

Dr. Umesh Kumar, Associate Professor, Paramedical remarked, “In an era of globalization, mastering multiple languages is not just an academic pursuit but a gateway to countless opportunities in international arenas. The introduction of these language courses at SVSU is a step towards empowering our students to compete on a global stage.”

Dr. Archita Bhatnagar, Dr. Simarpreet Coordinator of SITE College, Dr. Shailja, Coordinator – Fine Arts College , Ms. Smriti and Ms. Zainab Khan, Coordinator, Paramedical College also ensured their support and presence in the workshop.

Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Yeshpal Sharma, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Ms. Swati Sharma, Dr. Ranveer, Dr. Ashish Dipankar, Dr. Anuj Bawara, Dr. Farha Hashmi, and Dr. Nishi Raghav, worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth execution of the workshops. Their meticulous planning and dedication were instrumental in creating an environment that was both conducive to learning and rich in professional development opportunities.

The Volunteers of the Department of Languages Chhavi, Apurvi, Shikha,  Priya,  Prachi, Priyanshu, Mayank, very well contributed in the smooth functioning of the Workshop.

Both the sessions of the workshop have been hailed as a resounding success, reflecting SVSU’s ongoing commitment to promoting Linguistic diversity and cultural understanding among its students. The university anticipates that the enthusiasm generated by these sessions will translate into increased enrollment in its Language certificate courses, further enriching the academic environment and preparing students to thrive in a globalized world.
