Dr. Seema Sharma Delivers Keynote at International Seminar Held at Lucknow University
Lucknow, January 9–10, 2026: The Department of Hindi and Modern Indian Languages at Lucknow University successfully organized a two-day International Seminar on the theme “Hindi ka Pravasi: Pravasi ki Hindi” on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas and World Hindi Day. The seminar was held at the Malaviya Auditorium and witnessed active participation from scholars, researchers, and students from India and abroad.
On January 9, 2026, during the Second Technical Session on the theme “Girmitiya Deshon mein Hindi: Itihaas, Asmita aur Sanskritik Punarjaagaran” Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, delivered the keynote address. In her insightful lecture, she elaborated on the historical development of Hindi in Girmitiya countries, its role in cultural preservation, and its significance in sustaining the linguistic identity of the Indian diaspora. She emphasized that Hindi is not merely a medium of communication but also a foundation of cultural memory and identity for overseas Indians.
Dr. Sharma further highlighted that in the era of globalization, Hindi is steadily strengthening its international presence, and the diaspora community has played a crucial role in its preservation and promotion. Her address was highly appreciated by the academic community present at the seminar.
The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Global Girmitiya Council, Varanasi, and Bharat Seva Trust, Varanasi. The event comprised six academic sessions, including the inaugural and valedictory sessions, fostering meaningful discussions on various dimensions of Hindi in the global context.
The seminar proved to be a significant academic initiative in understanding the global perspective of Hindi and reaffirming its relevance within the diaspora discourse.
