Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, through its Literary Club, organized a Debate Competition on the occasion of National Voters’ Day under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra, Director, and Prof. Dr. Reena Bishnoi Officiating Dean- Faculty of Law, with the objective of promoting electoral awareness and democratic values among students. The competition aimed to encourage critical thinking, articulate expression, and informed discussion on issues related to voting rights, electoral reforms, and citizen participation in a democracy, thereby fostering constitutional consciousness and responsible civic engagement among future legal professionals.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting before Goddess Maa Saraswati in the august presence of the esteemed dignitaries, followed by a formal Welcome Address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Prem Chandra. The honored guests for the occasion were Prof. Dr. Sartaj Ahmad, Dean Student Welfare, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, and Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages. During his address, Prof. (Dr.) Prem Chandra, highlighted the significance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and sensitized students about the need for awareness regarding its crucial role in ensuring accurate electoral rolls and strengthening the democratic process.
The debate was conducted on the topic “Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Should Be Held At Short And Regular Intervals”, which holds significant relevance in the contemporary electoral framework. Participants presented well-structured and evidence-based arguments highlighting the importance of continuous voter list revision in ensuring transparency, accuracy, and inclusiveness in elections.
The competition was conducted in accordance with predefined rules regarding time limits, relevance of content, and decorum. After the completion of the rounds, the judges shared their insightful feedback, observations, and constructive suggestions, motivating the participants to further refine their advocacy and reasoning skills.At the conclusion of the event, the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Muskan Srivastava, who expressed her sincere gratitude to the esteemed dignitaries for gracing the occasion with their presence and appreciated the dedicated efforts of all the members of the Literary Club for successfully organizing the competition.
