A guest lecture on the theme “Environmental Initiatives of Subharti University” was organized under the Deekshaarambh 2025–26 Induction Programme by the Department of Liberal Arts & Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Mukesh Ruhela, Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering.

The event commenced with a warm welcome of Prof. (Dr.) Mukesh Ruhela by Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Head of the Department of Liberal Arts & Humanities, who presented him with a plant. Dr. Tripathi then addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and stated that Subharti University has been making remarkable efforts toward sustainable development. He further noted that today’s generation must develop sensitivity and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. He also highlighted that in Indian culture, nature is regarded as divine, and protecting it is our moral duty. Through initiatives like Deekshaarambh, students are not only introduced to academic life but are also made aware of their social and environmental responsibilities.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Mukesh Ruhela emphasized the necessity of making environmental awareness an integral part of one’s lifestyle. He pointed out that due to rapid urbanization, industrialization, and unchecked exploitation of resources, the ecological balance of the planet is under serious threat. He stressed the crucial role of educational institutions, policymakers, and especially the youth, in addressing these challenges.

Dr. Ruhela elaborated on the environmental initiatives implemented by Subharti University, such as rainwater harvesting systems, the use of solar energy, solid waste management practices, and the green campus policy. He highlighted that the university not only adopts environmentally sustainable infrastructure but also actively nurtures a sense of ecological responsibility among students.

He urged the students to participate in environmental audits, tree plantation drives, energy conservation campaigns, and plastic-free campus movements. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” He concluded by affirming that no development can be truly sustainable without environmental stability.

At the end of the session, Dr. Durvesh Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
