The Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, successfully organized Mock Parliament – SAMVAAD 2025, a dynamic simulation of the Indian Parliament that provided students with hands-on learning about democratic functioning, law-making, and deliberative governance.

Dr. Jyoti Gaur, Head of the Department, graced the event as the President of India and inaugurated the session with an inspiring address. In her speech, she congratulated all the participants and highlighted that “such academic activities not only enhance knowledge but also strengthen leadership qualities, decision-making skills, and civic responsibility among students.” She further encouraged students to develop a spirit of healthy debate and respect for diverse opinions — the true essence of democracy.

Dr. Seema Sharma played the role of the Vice President of India and, in her remarks, stated that “Mock Parliament is not just an activity, but a reflection of democratic practice that helps young minds understand the intricacies and procedures of governance. It creates a sense of political awareness and responsibility that every citizen should possess.”

Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi executed his role as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha beautifully, maintaining the discipline and decorum of the house throughout the session. In his address, he emphasized the importance of dialogue and decorum in democratic institutions. He said, “The strength of a democracy lies in its ability to listen, deliberate, and decide collectively. Every viewpoint, no matter how different, contributes to the richness of parliamentary discourse.” Dr. Dinesh Kumar efficiently performed the role of Deputy Speaker, assisting in the management of the proceedings.

The entire house was moderated by Dr. Amrita Chaudhary, who ensured smooth coordination, balanced debates, and meaningful participation from all members.

Among the student participants, Miss Arushi Singh portrayed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Jay Bhadana played Rahul Gandhi, and Manjeet Goswami acted as Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. Other active participants who took on ministerial and parliamentary roles included Alish, Anshika Kaushik, Ankit Kumar, Vanshika Chaudhary, Divya Chauhan, Garima Pandey, Megha Verma, Navya, Tanisha, Atul Kaushik, Puneet Goswami, Khalid Abrar, Tarun Panwar, Kartik Gandharv, Riya, and Nida.

The journalist team, comprising Vihaan, Kainat, Dipak, Nitesh Tiwari, Prajjawal Pandey, and Bhavi Tomar, added realism to the session by reporting on the debates and outcomes.

Several bills — including the Waqf Board Bill, Online Gaming Bill, Manipur Violence Bill, and Sanatan Board Bill — were introduced, debated, and passed after detailed discussions, reflecting the students’ keen insight into current social and political issues.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Amrita Chaudhary and Dr. Dinesh Kumar, whose dedicated efforts ensured the success of the program. Mr. Kapil Kumar also participated and shared his profound thoughts on the educational importance of such simulations in enhancing civic literacy and critical thinking.

Among the faculty members present were Dr. Ruby, Miss Juli, Dr. Lovely, and Dr. Ajay, who appreciated the initiative and the enthusiasm of the participants. Students Yeyati, Devika, Harsh Bhadana, Ankit, Prashant, and Krishna Kush were also present and contributed to the vibrant learning environment.
