On Friday, May 13, 2022, the Department of Fashion and Textile Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts hosted a “One Day Educational Trip” to Weavers Service Center in Mangal Pandey Nagar, Meerut. Faculty members Dr. Neha Singh (HOD), Dr. Pooja, Ms. Anisha Anand, and Ms. Shefali Bansal accompanied students from Fashion and Textile Design on the visit. At 9:30 a.m., all students were instructed to report to College. Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, the college’s Principal and Dean wished all of the students a happy and safe voyage. We left at 10:15 a.m. and arrived at the destination at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Jaipal Saini, the center’s Technical Superintendent, greeted everyone kindly. Following that, all students and instructors were separated into two groups. Both groups were shown how to weave, dye, and print using various tools and materials. Students saw how hand-woven textiles are made and learned how important weavers are in today’s mechanical world.
The center promotes the handloom industry’s continued expansion in order to compete in the global market and gives all necessary technical help to weavers and others involved in the handloom sector, including design input, technical aid, and training in weaving, dyeing, and printing. The pupils were also given the opportunity to observe the dyeing and printing procedures. The loom manager also discussed the methods of sizing, connecting the warp, weft winding, and weaving with the students. The tour accomplished its goal of educating students about the importance of weavers in the manufacture of high-quality textiles in the country as it boosted their practical knowledge too.
Thereafter students were taken to the local market for a market survey. They were given assignments to collect samples of different fabrics and to see the current trend in street markets. They get to know about the mass production apparel, different prints, and patterns. This market survey enhanced their fabric identification and cost estimation skills
