Poetic Symposium and Slogan-Writing Competition on the Theme
“Women Empowerment and Expression”
Organized under Mission Shakti Phase–5
Under the initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh-Mission Shakti Phase-5, the Women Empowerment Committee (WEC) of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, in collaboration with the Gender Sensitization Cell (GSC), successfully organized a Poetic Symposium and Slogan-Writing Competition on the theme “Women Empowerment and Expression.” The programme was held at the Madan Mohan Malviya Auditorium, SITE, SVSU.
The Women Empowerment Committee meaningfully celebrated the strength, emotions, and voices of women through the transformative power of poetry. Poetry is not merely an art form; it is an embodiment of courage, a catalyst for change, and a mirror of society. Through this symposium and slogan-writing competition, the committees created a platform where words became wings of empowerment and verses emerged as echoes of women’s resilience and aspirations.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Rafat Khanam, which set an inspiring tone for the entire event. Dr. Anshul Trivedi, Chairperson of the Women Empowerment Committee addressed the students and recited a poem by Kamala Das, effectively highlighting themes of women’s identity and selfhood. Dr. Sarika Abhay, Convener of the Gender Sensitization Cell, also addressed the audience and emphasized the importance of gender sensitivity in educational institutions.
The self-composed poems presented during the Poetic Symposium focused on themes such as empowerment, equality, dignity, and social justice.
In the Poetic Symposium
- First Prize was awarded to Dazzle Dandona of the Dental College
- Second Prize to Vidhi Goswami, M.A. English, Department of Languages
- Third Prize to Nishtha Chauhan from the School of Naturopathy
In the Slogan-Writing Competition, students presented impactful and creative slogans advocating women’s rights and gender equality.
Winners of the Slogan-Writing Competition:
- First Prize: Nisha and Yashi (Dental College)
- Second Prize: Mahi and Anushka (School of Naturopathy)
- Third Prize: Ginni Verma and Dr. Aishwarya (Dental College)
The presence of esteemed judges— Dr. Rekha Gupta, Senior Obstetrician & Gynecologist, Chhatrapati Shivaji Subharti Hospital, Meerut, and Dr. Sweta Bhardwaj, Additional Dean Student Welfare and Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Technology-enhanced the significance of the event. Their insightful remarks and appreciation greatly encouraged the participants.
The Poetic Symposium was coordinated by Dr. Rafat Khanam, Associate Professor, Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, while the Slogan-Writing Competition was coordinated by Dr. Aruna Bansal, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
The programme was efficiently moderated with confidence and clarity by the students of Languages Department- M.A. English, Vidhi Goswami, and B.A. English Hons. Kanishka Gautam.
Students from various faculties-Languages, Engineering, Pharmacy, Dental College, and Naturopathy—participated enthusiastically. Gender Champions of the Department of Languages-Fahad, Kanishka, Vidhi, and Ritik-along with Bhoomi, played an important role in the smooth conduct of the event. Nandini , student of Engineering college, and Samia, Jia, Anushka, and Chhavi students of Department of Languages were also present.
The event concluded with a collective resolution that Subharti University will continue to promote creative expression, gender equality, and the empowerment of young voices through literary, cultural, and innovative platforms.
